1701 Rhode Island Avenue, Washington, DC
1701 Rhode Island Avenue, previously known as the YMCA National Capital, is a renovation project from a full brick community center to a four sided all glass office structure. PCC Construction Components, a design assist specialty contractor supporting the building envelope with custom curtain wall and architectural wall systems, was responsible for the exterior and interior glazing & panels.
Encased by exterior copper shingle cladding, curtain walls with floor to ceiling energy efficient glass, glazed in metal panels and louvers, vertical fins, and horizontal accent covers the main enclosure is a work of art in and of itself. PCC designed, supplied, and installed custom filigrees, a point supported glass canopy, a structurally finned all glass entrance, punched windows, steel panels, composite metal panels, custom aluminum plate sunshades, aluminum plate cornice metal panels, and a factory assembled modularized copper entrance portal system. PCC also took on decorative laminated glass toilet compartment doors, all frameless mirror and interior glazing which includes the all glass doors, back painted glass found at the elevator lobbies, revolving door and sidelites.
