What is a Design Assist Contractor?
As a building project develops – from design to engineering and then construction, there are problems or inefficiencies that have to be addressed. If these problems or inefficiencies are handled through change orders, delays result, and accountability for ownership is not always clear. Instead, some projects assign a design-assist contractor to assist the architect, engineer or construction manager with the development of the design and construction documents. What is a custom curtainwall?
A custom curtainwall is a uniquely designed wall system that showcases the architecture of the building. They are often designed as entrances or on the podium level of buildings.
What are rainscreen cladding systems?
A rainscreen is an exterior wall detail where the siding (wall cladding) stands off from the moisture-resistant surface of an air/water barrier applied to the sheathing to create a capillary break and to allow drainage and evaporation.
Which material is the best?
While glass is a common window solution, there are other options such as plexiglass that is shatterproof or tinted windows that will maximize energy efficiency.
Which frames are the best?
Frames are usually made of aluminum, wood, vinyl, or some composite material. Aluminum frames are durable and can withstand the elements. Other materials like wood offer aesthetic qualities. PCC is knowledgable about materials, will provide you updates on lead times and we carry a wide selection to help you find the perfect fit for your building.
How do we look to maximize energy efficiency?
Look for the U-value. This is a numerical representation of the window’s efficiency. The lower the U-value, the more efficient the windows. Another metric is solar heat gain, or SHG that represents how much heat comes in through the window via sunlight. Windows with low SHGs are better at keeping the heat out, which likely will keep your energy bill low during the summer. PCC can help analyze your options.
What security features should we choose?
There are three options to prevent glass from shattering during a break-in or in severe weather conditions; Plexiglass, Security Sealant or Bullet-Proof Glass. Plexi-glass will not break under any condition, but it can scratch and is least aesthetically pleasing. The second option is to get a sealant over your windows to hold the glass together. It may crack, but it should hold the glass in place. Finally, if security is top priority for your business, this specialty glass will stay in place no matter the situation.
How long does it take for a window tint to fade?
It depends on the quality of the tinting method used, however, the average span tends to last 10 to 20 years.
